Close to the end of the film it repeats the beginning of the film however being cut short to quickly skips the parts we have seen the shootout between Lil Ze and Carrot in which we see Knockout Ned killed and this ultimately builds up to the ending where Lil Ze is also killed by the runts.
during this Rocket managed to take a load of photos of things like the police corruption to Lil Ze's corpse which helps him be able to leave the City of God which this theme of escape is shown throughout the film as many characters attempt to leave the City of God for example Benny attempts to leave but is killed before hand making the City of God seem to be inescapable using violence which is throughout the favela
The only person who was able to escape the City of God is Rocket who used his skills and built upon them during the film and by the end he is able to use his skills to leave the City Of God and during the film we see Rockets evolve his skills by the cameras he is given from a old cheap camera to a brand new one at the end
